The second round 2009 NBA playoffs has just started although there were quite a few upsets with Mavericks dethroning the Spurs and the Bulls taking the Celtics to seven games but teams who went through all the way to the second round are good and expected teams. This would be an interesting round and I think it would be the Cavaliers cruising its way to the next level. The Celtics will have to dig deep into their roster with Garnet still out and an undersized big man called “big baby” will have to hold his ground against “Superman” Dwight Howard.
Second round Play off analysis
Los Angeles Lakers – Houston Rockets – As we move a notch higher the physicality of the playoffs are becoming more evident. The Rockets controlled game 1 with Yao orchestrating their offense and Artest and Battier take turns in neutralizing Kobe. Battier who got a few stitches on the head coming from Vujajic had no answer for Kobe in the second game. Technicals were called against Fisher, Bryant and Artest. The Rockets after 0-4 against the Lakers in the season were playing a more relax and inspired ball game. This is a big test for the Lakers but I think they will move on the next level because they have the deeper bench and with Yao’s right knee not a hundred percent they are in big trouble with Pau and Bynum in the middle not to mention Kobe.
Denver Nuggets – Dallas Mavericks – Chauncy has finally live up to his team’s expectations carrying the Nuggets into a place which they never been before and it looks like they will very well move on to the next round with Nowitzki’s Dallas on a verge of a breakdown. They just couldn’t find the right answer to Denver’s puzzle.
Cleveland Cavaliers – Atlanta Hawks – Lebron’s MVP was no coincidence it took him blood sweat and tears to get what he deserves. And it’s bad news for Atlanta Hawks who had to go to 7 full games against Miami. Cleveland has the freshest legs and they have the league’s MVP so far Atlanta has been in two blow-out games we might see another sweep for Cleveland…
Boston Celtics – Orlando Magic – They still have Pierce, Allen and Rondo to count on and will look more on to their maturity in setting the tempo of the game. Orlando still has Dwight Howard but they lack the consistency of Turkuglo and Lewis. When the outside shooting doesn’t fall Magic is in for a long night. A key for them to win against Boston is Defense… Shutdown their perimeter offense since they don’t have much inside threat with Garnet out. Game 3 would be crucial and losing Rafer Alston to suspension could pretty well go into Celtics favor. This would be an exciting playoff series but I go for the Celtics experience and maturity to win in crucial games against the Magic.
