If you want an apple and they gave you lemons then make lemonades instead. Manny Pacquiao knows a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is already farfetched. When it takes two to tango Floyd wants to do his solo act. There won’t be any November fight and maybe there won’t be any Pacquiao-Mayweather fight at all. Mayweather’s rant last week was way below the belt not just for Pacquiao but for other boxing scribes who still have respect for Mayweather.
I’m on vacation for about a year, about a year,” Mayweather said. “As soon as we come off vacation, we’re going to cook that little yellow chump. We ain’t worried about that. So they ain’t gotta worry about me fighting the midget. Once I kick the midget ass, I don’t want you all to jump on my d—-. So you all better get on the bandwagon now. … Once I stomp the midget, I’ll make that mother f——- make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice.”
It was no way to treat a person who never disrespects you in the first place. And writers lost whatever respect left they have on him. Floyd is 33 years old but thinks like a 6th grader who craves attention he just hates Manny’s limelight so much that he went low ball against him. So far he only has two choices he either fights Manny Pacquiao to end all doubts or he shuts his mouth up.
Manny never took Mayweather’s rants seriously even saying it’s just an uneducated message which never should have given attention in the first place.
I never like Antonio Margarito as Pacquiao’s next opponent in the first place because of the hand wrapping incident where Margarito was found having plaster of Paris on his hand wraps but I think Antonio is still the perfect matchup for Pacquiao. He is the tallest fighter Manny will face in 5-foot-11 inches who is just half an inch taller than Oscar De La Hoya. And he can certainly hurt Manny with his crisp jabs and brawler type attitude. He may have no business against Manny’s speed and accuracy but he can still create problems with his height and power. Years ago when Margarito and Miguel Cotto were the kings on the welterweight division Floyd went on hiding he decides to have a pre mature retirement than risking his immaculate record.
There’s no one in boxing history that made legacies out of talking and trashing opponents.
Mayweather maybe an apple but he is still a rotten apple, Pacquiao would rather make lemonades out of the lemons he got. Because people like Floyd should never be given any attention and most of all a fight in which he doesn’t have guts to say yes anyways. Hope he retires soon because he is a disgrace to boxing. Well Floyd, that midget you mentioned just kick your ass by fighting Margarito…

It wasn’t the same since he racked up 34 undefeated fights, Ivan Calderon at 35 years old looks a bit slower now and has gradual deteriorating God given abilities. On his last 4 fights Ivan struggled most of the way. He had three gashes when he fought Hugo Cazares on their rematch (accidental headbutt) and twice to Rodel Mayol (accidental clash of heads) and went down on his fight with Jesus Iribe in the second round. Ivan had been through toughest competitions since he won the light flyweight title against Cazares on their first encounter.
It was his vaunted speed and fast reflexes that made him through a lot of fights on his career and came out undefeated. He fought former welterweight champion and now the WBA super Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto on their amateur days when Cotto was still campaigning in the light flyweight division. He sparred with Shane Mosley who is a welterweight mainstay in preparing for his fight against Cazares. He sparred with Oscar De La Hoya when Oscar was preparing for his mega fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and yet he still came out unharmed and unscathed.
At 35 years old Ivan’s prime was just a thing in the past. He knows he lost a step or two in the process and his only refuge would be to fight wisely and avoid punches by solely not engaging. Sooner or later his “O” has got to go and he knows at the back of his head it would come to the most deserving fighter he will soon face.
Giovanni Segura the 28 year old WBA champion fought Ivan Calderon on a unification bout last Saturday right in front of Ivan’s home crowd. It was a good boxing match from start until the 8th round. It was the first time I saw the “Iron boy” got a beating with swollen eyes in the middle rounds. It was on the eight round with 1:34 seconds left when Ivan took a knee after a barrage of body shots. As the referee started the count I saw something on Ivan’s eyes. It wasn’t the same champion who wills himself to win fights, it wasn’t the same fiery eyes that was hurt and bloodied and yet continued to fight… After 34 wins and the boxer who is one of the most decorated talented fighter in the history of boxing finally is tired of winning…He can still fight but somehow he saw something in Segura that made him took a knee. Maybe it was the punishment he took on all those body shots but maybe he saw the same dedication the same fiery eyes he saw himself way back while he reign in his division. A simple passing of the torch and Calderon took the lone defeat on his career like a great champion. Sometimes the longer you play the better and younger player has the bigger chance of winning and this time Segura came out the deserving winner. Ivan will always be one of the most skilled boxer in history and one of the best boxer to came out in Puerto Rico and that legacy will be forever be etched in boxing.
When Charles Schulz the American cartoonist who made snoopy and a comic strip called peanuts once said “Once you’re over the hill you begin to pick up speed. ” There is always life after boxing and for champions and philantrophist like Calderon there is more than what he expected awaits.

Kevin Ferguson otherwise known as Kimbo Slice was staring on a blank surface after losing on his UFC heavy weight debut against Matt Mitrione. There won’t be any opportunity this time. It was already been given right in front of him and he blew it big time. Dana White issued a statement that after 6 MMA fights it looks like it’s already the end of the road for Kimbo in UFC. The long stare seemed to recall a lot of experiences on his 36 years of existence.
Kimbo remembered his first fight when he was still 13 years old. He fought the school bully defending his friend and took the kid out with one powerful left hook. He was always the over protective type growing up on rough neighbourhoods and having to stand for his 10 siblings being the eldest of the family. He was a football star in high school as a middle line backer but when Hurricane Andrew destroyed his home and school, his hopes of earning a scholarship for football goes with it. He called his 1987 Nissan Path finder his home and the fountains and oceans as his shower room. He remembered the time when he was working as a limo driver and a body guard for porn productions before he became an internet sensation. Life was hard back then but nothings really change so far. It’s still a struggle but this time on a bigger stage.
Respect is not ask, if you want respect then you have to earn it and Kimbo has been fighting for respect for most of his life. It was through those street fights that he earns the respect of men and at 36 years old there is nothing much out there for him.
Gary Shaw clearly understands Kimbo. The boxing promoter who once was the events president of the defunct EliteXC knows Slice pretty well. He was the one who gave Kimbo the chance to show his wares in front of thousands of fans. Kimbo was the face of EliteXC but when Seth Petruzelli dominated Kimbo in their matchup the company shuts down. Gary understands Kimbo and he offered him to try boxing.
Boxing needs someone like Kimbo who could inject new blood in the boring heavy weight division. A new sport but same fight, same conviction… It’s still all about respect. He doesn’t care if he fights the Klitschko brothers or David Haye he just wants a fight.
“I am fighting for a reason. I am fighting for my family. I am fighting for myself. I am fighting never to go back to the gutter again. I am fighting to raise my kids up to be in a different environment. There’s a lot I am fighting for.”
One door closes another one opens…

The rule of debate states that you should never concede that you agree with the other side or suggest compromise positions.
The Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao dispute have been there for such a long time that I have written a number of articles and debated a number of people just to make a point. And somewhere down the line it all comes back to rule number 1 never concede and never compromise. It’s a never ending road but there is always the truth which refutes all debates, the one thing that can never be disputed.
When Floyd Mayweather said he is the best boxer in history more than Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali the” best fighter ever” is definitely a debatable topic. No one can claim legacies and no one can dictate history. Floyd maybe the most skilled boxer in our generation but he is definitely not the best fighter of all time. Muhammad Ali fought Joe Frazier and George Foreman the two most notable fighters in his time and Sugar Ray Robinson fought almost everybody with 200 professional fights. There are no comparisons in fact it’s not even close to any of them. The truth is we make our own destiny and we choose our own paths and the people decide our legacy.
The first negotiation between Manny and Floyd was stalled because of blood testing but when Manny agreed to all his terms we only heard about his minions defending him that there was no negotiation that took place days after Bob Arum set the deadline for Floyd to sign the contract. Floyd remains to be silent the whole time and Ross Greenburg HBO’s president supported Arum’s claim that there was really a negotiation between Arum and Floyd’s people. Sometimes silence is the most powerful scream and Floyd remained to be mum about it. There are many reasons why the fight never pushes through. Roger Mayweather, Floyd’s uncle and trainer has still litigations to tackle after battering his former lady boxer, Floyd can say that he doesn’t want a 50-50 purse split and he wants the bigger piece of the pie, He needs time and will be ready to fight next year or he will fight as long as Pacquiao signs an automatic rematch. But Floyd remains on vacation and there was not even one reason why a fight with Pacquiao never materialized. The dog that barks the loudest doesn’t bite and this time there wasn’t even one sound that came out of Floyd’s mouth.
Floyd can say he is the best or that he isn’t afraid of anyone and he is the face of boxing but we all know the truth. His legacy is yet to be written and nobody in boxing history says he is the best and became who he is if he doesn’t fought the toughest opposition in his era. “Each Warrior wants to leave the mark of his will, his signature, on important acts he touches. This is not the voice of ego but of the human spirit, rising up and declaring that it has something to contribute to the solution of the hardest problems, no matter how vexing!” and Pat Riley knows what he is talking and like any debate there is no better conclusion than this.

As soon as the final bell sounded Juan Diaz felt he had done enough to get the judges nod. He had the perfect execution by taking his time and not being too aggressive. He fought a technical fight but still it wasn’t enough, Juan Manuel Marquez came out the better fighter last Saturday night.
Diaz with his last 6 fights were all subpar performance winning twice with one of them a controversial unanimous decision against Paulie Malignaggi and lost 4 of them twice on Marquez, one on Malignaggi on their rematch and one from Nate Campbell grabbing his three lightweight titles in return.
It’s been such a whirlwind career being undefeated for 33 fights and still at a tender age of 23 before hitting rock bottom on a lackluster performance against Nate Campbell.
He gave every fight like it was his last and now the University of Houston Political Science degree holder is thinking about pursuing his dream of becoming a lawyer and planning to take the LSAT (Law School Admission Test).
26 years old is still too young to call it a career but sometimes we all have to make choices in the long run. 10 years as a pro, maybe Diaz needs a break from the sport he loves. Not many boxers had the chance to have a fall back and Diaz have a luxury of doing that. He knows boxing is only temporary and when his luster starts to fade and all the fame and money burns out it’s going to be him and the world beyond boxing.
There is always a light beyond the darkest tunnel sometimes it needs failures and frustrations to get us into the right direction. Juan Diaz will continue to fight because he needs too. It’s no way for a champion to end his career in a bad note he just needs a break and besides I already imagined Michael Buffer introducing Juan Diaz “And now the fighting lawyer from Houston…” Diaz continues to inspire us. See even in failure there is still a good side into it.

Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales were the featherweight legends in Mexico on their peaks of their career and Juan Manuel Marquez was always considered the third wheel. The great boxer who couldn’t seem to get a shot on the upper echelon of boxing, always the best man never been the groom. And when Barrera and Morales first met in 2000 Marquez was out there fighting an unknown fighter Roque Cassiani three months after for the vacant WBO NABO featherweight title. He was never considered the best at that time, but time and time again Marquez wants to prove everyone wrong. He never wanted to emulate Barrera and Morales’s career he wants to be on top of them and this Saturday would be another step again for greatness as he battles again Juan Diaz on a rematch to move a step higher on top.
Marquez has a simple game plan and that is to win a fight against Diaz in order to set up a title fight on Amir Khan’s WBA light welterweight title to be the only Mexican to win three titles in three different divisions a feat both Morales and Barrera failed as they extend their boxing career searching for that elusive title.
Easier said than done, Diaz who is 10 years younger than Marquez at 26 came from a disappointing loss to Paulie Malignaggi will try to resurrect his career. He fought Marquez gallantly on their first encounter with some thrilling moments wobbling Marquez’s legs on some rounds before Marquez got his second wind and knock Diaz out in the ninth round which earned them the fight of the year in 2009. Everything went downhill from there for Diaz after winning a controversial fight with Malignaggi he was outpointed clearly in their rematch last December. A win against Marquez not only gives him retribution but it also gives him a crack on Amir Khan’s title. He knows it was his conditioning that causes him his TKO loss on their first match and he now he won’t fall in that trap again this Saturday he will be ready and hope Marquez’s is too.
It was Manny Pacquiao that gave Marquez a name in boxing giving Manny the pound per pound best two toughest fight on his career. He came out standing after three first round knockdowns on their first fight to salvage a draw and loss a split decision on their rematch thanks to Manny’s lone knockdown that sprawled Marquez on the canvass the very same canvass Marquez was facing two years after against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Losing is not an option and Marquez never entertained that thought. He knows he still can defeat Diaz for the second time around. He continues to defy every doubt every critic that was plastered to him. And when the world was watching Barrera and Morales first encounter out there a young Juan Manuel Marquez was watching them out setting up his goals that someday he will meet each one of them in the ring or someday people will notice him and consider him as one of the best. A decade after Marquez earned that respect.
It’s still a long shot on an Amir Khan title fight on which at that time he will be 37 years old fighting a hungry 23 years old Bolton fighter. He doesn’t need long strides in getting to his goals anymore just baby steps and standing on his way is one baby…”The baby bull” Juan Diaz. Whatever happens Marquez’s legacy is now secured.
The winner takes it all or rather the winner takes Khan.

When the proposed fight of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. got stalled everyone blamed Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter and Top rank’s top honcho. He was the boy that called wolf and Golden Boy’s Oscar Delahoya, Richard Schaefer and Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe all ganged up on Arum.
There was no negotiation that took place it was all in Bob’s great plan pitting Manny with his other co promoted boxer Miguel Cotto or Antonio Margarito. The animosity with Mayweather isn’t a secret and Arum is open about that and Ellerbe issued a statement in July 19 three days after Arum set a deadline for Floyd to sign the contract “Al Haymon, Richard Schaefer and myself speak to each other on a regular basis and the truth is no negotiations have ever taken place nor was there ever a deal agreed upon by Team Mayweather or Floyd Mayweather to fight Manny Pacquiao on November 13. Either Ross Greenburg or Bob Arum is not telling the truth, but history tells us who is lying.”
Bob Arum claims he was telling the truth but nobody believes him. His credibility is in question it was like putting everyone in the basket on one grand scheme it wasn’t about Mayweather after all.
Arum had to find a middle man in negotiating with Floyd and HBO’s president Ross Greenburg rightfully fits the bill. Arum was consistent about the negotiations but he was hesitant to give the media details because of the gag order both parties agreed. Here are the facts: negotiations started on May 2 and on June 2 Floyd on a make-a-wish event in Las Vegas stated he will be taking a couple of years off in boxing. In June 11 The Golden Boy Oscar Delahoya in a televised Spanish interview was translated as saying “I think right now we are very, very close in finalizing the contracts. I can’t talk right now in detail about the negotiations but I will say that we are very close.” On July 16 Arum set a deadline for Floyd to sign the contract.
Those dates made Arum’s claim to be consistent and bottom line is negotiations really took place and Floyd is trying to protect his unblemished record.
Ross Greenburg GBP’s closest ally issued a statement “Fights like Mayweather vs. Pacquiao are significant because of these fighters’ ability to connect with sports fans around the world. It’s unfortunate that it won’t happen in 2010. I had been negotiating with a representative from each side since May 2nd, carefully trying to put the fight together. Hopefully, someday this fight will happen. Sports fans deserve it.”
Now the truth has already been known and no one can debate when it comes to real facts. So question would be who is crying wolf now?

Antonio Margarito had been smiling lately after Bob Arum announced their November 13 fight against Manny Pacquiao. It wasn’t about retribution or hard work it was just luck being in the right time and right promoter.
1 year ago Margarito tarnished his good name in boxing after Nazim Richardson saw plaster of Paris on his handwraps minutes before he traded leather against Shane Mosley. He was suspended for a year which for me was a light punishment for a crime as such. He claimed he wasn’t aware about the hidden plaster wrapped in his hands and Judd Burstein Mosley’s attorney said Margarito had wet pads in the wrapping and was eventually found to be plaster of Paris a substance that hardens when mixed with water just like cement.
He may blame everything on his trainer Javier Capetillo and wash his hands on Pontius Pilate’s basin but the fact is you always know when something is place on your hands. You can feel the wet pads slowly drying up and you can also feel the hardening of your wraps. Capetillo would be the main culprit just like Mosley’s alleged steroids fiasco when he said he doesn’t know what his trainers gave him but Mosley or Margarito will always be the accessory to the crime. They might not be the gun man but they are still the gun being used.
What if something happened to Mosley on that night? Shane might have an iron chin but no chin is strong when blocks of cements came to you in a barrage of punches.
Boxing has been stained over and over again and there is no place for cheaters like Margarito. I can’t believe why people treat him like he was the victim here. We may never know if he had placed that illegal wraps when he fought Miguel Cotto or Kermit Cintron. Manny Pacquiao is fighting a high risk low reward opponent and there is no justice for this one. Timothy Bradley, Paul Williams, Miguel Cotto and even Juan Manuel Marquez deserves a mega fight with Manny.
Antonio Margarito only had to rest for a year then fought Roberto Garcia and now he has a title crack and a fight with Manny Pacquiao. I can see him smiling all the way to fight night like a smile of a con man that just fooled us all.

The clock is ticking as Bob Arum switch the time-sand up and down as the grains slowly drop until it becomes full right after Friday midnight.
Its Floyd’s turn to make this fight happen and there aren’t enough good reasons to think about it this time. Manny Pacquiao already agreed the controversial blood testing right up to the fight night and when a proposed 50-50 purse split was presented there was no objection from the Mayweather camp.
All systems go, now all Floyd got to do is sign the contract it’s as simple as that.
But we don’t live in a perfect world and one mega fight which only asks both fighters to sign the dotted line can be that complicated.
I don’t think Floyd is afraid of Manny in fact any fighter who goes to the ring risking their lives for the sake of entertainment and money is in no way be called a coward but he is the typical businessman who only invest if they know they got something bigger in return. He is just afraid of losing and Pacquiao is capable of giving him that. He’s just obsessed in losing his precious “o” that even with an aged fighter like Shane Mosley he demanded a rematch clause.
From what I see, Floyd has only two choices it’s either he signs the contract or retire undefeated with a questionable legacy. At age 33 skipping a mega fight which could earn him a guaranteed $50 million in favor of fighting a year older is not what we call a perfect game plan. Those reflexes and those speed could certainly lost a step or two once we get to be older and if you’re in the fight club 34 is already older with a bit bigger mileage.
Bob Arum has to give a deadline to make this a more memorable event in November with all the marketing and build up it needs a larger time frame to produce such a humongous fight in history but maybe he also has hints that Floyd will not take this fight and if Manny would fight Cotto or Margarito they need all the time to hype things up.
As soon as the last grain of sand drops…the time was up for Floyd. Still there was no contract on hand, there was no explanation just an empty space with another frustrated boxing fans waiting in vain… I dread for that moment to come but it’s not the end of everything. Maybe theirs are just made in fantasy fights and boxing games… The hopes just ends there it just came to a point that we just want a fight be it Pacquiao taking on Mayweather or any other fight. Three days… and if there is such thing as “The Decision” by Lebron James this time it’s the conclusion… as the world again awaits Floyd’s decision. Suddenly the hype has just died down. It’s his time to step up with Manny bowing down to his demands…
The world awaits but half of the world sleeps and a pinch of us don’t care anymore. It’s been months now since their initial negotiations and now it boils down to one final decision.
If not Floyd there’s always some Cottos and Margaritos out there waiting. It’s about time this fight be made and if not November then it will never will. Life goes on and much bigger fights will eventually happen.
