With just a few weeks left until the 2015 NFL regular season, one of the main storylines for the Houston Texans involves their #1 overall pick from 2014, Jadeveon Clowney. After entering the season with so much hype last year, Clowney went down with a serious knee injury that robbed almost all of his rookie year. Houston obviously doesn’t want to rush him back, but he is easing back into practice so far this preseason.
Thanks to TV show Hard Knocks, fans are getting an inside look they normally would not see of Houston’s preparation for the 2015 season. Naturally, his injury is a storyline they are monitoring. It has been very encouraging, with people seeing some glimpses of why he was #1 overall in workouts. Being taken off the physically unable to perform list is also a sign that he is not that far off from contributing.
With a couple of weeks left in the preseason, the team seems to be leaning towards not using him at all. Playing a little bit might knock some rust off, but it could also set him back. It is a smarter idea for Clowney and the coaching staff to wait until he is feeling healthy and confident to play the way he wants to.
No one needs fantasy football tips to understand that Houston has a great defense already, but a healthy Clowney could make them the best in the NFL. Teaming up with JJ Watt, they could have two huge difference makers that teams would have to plan for. Despite the knee injury, expectations are still very high for Clowney. He might not be 100% back to his pre-draft self in 2015, but people are anxious to see if his presence could help them pick up an extra win or two this season, putting them right in the playoff hunt
