Antoine Walker had a long walk towards the bus.
It has been like that ever since… Long bus rides, longer nights and long chartered flights. His mansions and luxury cars were just a thing in the past. He now rides, a 5-hour bus ride or a commercial flight going to team games and mansions became motels.
The life of an NBDL player, that’s the life Antoine Walker will be facing on his career.
However, there was no remorse or sadness seen on Walker’s face. There were no regrets after spending his money on friends and families, two Bentleys, two Mercedes, Range Rover, Cadillac, Hummer, mansions and gambling on Casinos. The Boston Globe reported Walker owning debts of $12.7 million.
There are no coincidences as everything happens with a purpose. His struggles are just part of his overall learning experience. He has only one goal now and that is to play back in the NBA.
After playing in Puerto Rico, he worked out with the Charlotte Bobcats in the off season, but he wasn’t able to get an invite to the training camp. Nobody seems to believe on an aging 34 year old veteran who was once a three-time NBA All-star. He wanted a chance, a redemption to get back all of those wasted opportunities.
The NBDL is his home now. A far cry from those privileges he had once on his career. The competition is stiffer with every player battling for that opportunity to play in the big league. His once multi-million salary is reduced to $30,000 per season.
He still has to pay all those debts, including a litigation case on May next year.
Antoine Walker could only smile as he went into his long walk towards the bus. He will have to face all those legal problems, but he can’t help himself knowing the NBA is just a step behind. One call away and an opportunity he once has and let it slipped away.
Everybody deserves a second chance but not everybody succeeds…Happiness is all about having a good disposition. Money doesn’t buy legacies and Walker learned that lesson the hard way.
