The Detroit Pistons have a comfortable lead going to halftime. The team is facing one of their toughest challenge this season… and everyone was playing spirited basketball. In a game where everyone thought was a done deal for Stephen Curry and the Warriors. Detroit proved every doubters wrong. This was a special night, the night where everything you deemed impossible became possible. The night that was dedicated to Detroit’s best underrated and undersized warrior… Ben Wallace. The crowd applauded and was all praised as Ben’s jersey was retired during half time.
Nobody could really replicate what Ben has done to the franchise. His unselfishness and dedication mold the 2004 Detroit team into a team capable of beating everyone… including the NBA championship wherein they face a formidable team composed of four future hall of famer athletes in Karl Malone, Shaquille O’neal, Kobe Bryant and Gary Payton.
Ben started from humble beginnings, he and his siblings had to picked pecans and bailed hay just to earn money to buy a basketball hoop that they set up outside the family’s three-bedroom house. Being the 10th of 11 siblings, Ben’s brothers seldom gave him the ball, so Ben would worked hard to get a steal, rebound or save a loose ball. This was basically his life… nothing was given freely to him, if he wants something, Ben had to worked hard for it. He doesn’t wait for chances, he creates his own opportunity. When Ben plays he treats every possession like his life depends on it. Statistics couldn’t quantify his career, he impacts the game more than anyone else. There is no measurement or figure for changing shots, setting up big screens, taking charges, helping defenses and unselfishness. Ben have done it all…
Teams are forever searching for someone like Ben Wallace to build their team around. There are Draymond Greens, Kawhi Leonards and Kenneth Farieds out there but somehow nobody could replicate Ben’s big heart. Everyone loves to play alongside someone who will die to get a rebound and eager to pass the ball to his teammates.
On the night the Detroit Pistons honored and retired Ben Wallace’s jersey, the Detroit Pistons played their best game ever this season. They clobbered the NBA’s number one team and withstand Stephen Curry’s 38 points like they were the defending champions. For one more night, Ben Wallace have once again impacted the game and made everyone special.
No, there’s no statistic on that… that’s Ben Wallace special gift.
