With days left before Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor Mcgregor trade punches. Everyone is rooting for Floyd cruising to a one-sided fight. You can’t just teach a fish to crawl in the land. Boxing is a different sport than MMA. However, I will be a devil’s advocate on this one. I will be rooting for the unpopular decision and will go with Conor.
Floyd is eating up all the pressure leading to fight night. There’s no way a boxer can be ousted by an MMA fighter who will be fighting his first boxing fight. It would be atrocious, unacceptable and humiliating. However, when one punch can spell the difference. An awkward and unprecedented Conor blow from an unexpecting Floyd would be a good story plot.
Conor has been vocal about how he would dismantle Floyd on his own game like what Bruce Lee had done through his opponents’ decades before. Mcgregor idolizes Bruce Lee and was quoted as being like the water “When water enters a cup, it becomes the cup.” Lee preached about the best defense in guarding a punch is to throw an unexpected punch in return. Even if Conor is clowning most of the time, I do believed they are preparing something for Floyd. It’s hard to fight an unconventional fighter, much more with Floyd’s brittle hands which makes it more difficult to score a knockout.
“In order to have complete freedom in your shot selection and direction, you must first gain the ability to disconnect each limb from the body safely. This is a right hand uppercut. But notice the separation in the shoulder joint. From the rotator cuff, to the clavicle and collar bone. The entire joint has complete freedom and separation. That whip of a shot is free to go in any direction.
The same rules apply for every part of the body. Freedom in the body equals freedom in the strike. “
When you see Conor clowning around, doing a chicken stance more than the usual boxing. Please don’t believe the hype. I have seen films where Conor trained and got awe with his work ethic. He works hard on his craft and he is more of a perfectionist. That is the main reason why he was regarded as one of the best fighters in MMA. Conor will be bringing a different element against Floyd.
Mayweather has been in boxing since he was a kid in the amateurs. He had gamed the sport for years escaping unscathed with a mercurial undefeated record. But sometimes a fresh new perspective from an outsider can be insightful and meaningful. In marketing, we call it “usability testing” wherein real users will give you good observations and suggestions. Something that you failed to see when you are so familiar with your product.
With nothing to lose and everything to gain. Conor Mcgregor is not just here for the dance. He is here to win it all the way.
