A victorious Miguel Cotto raised his hands up in the air after winning Yuri Foreman’s title. He is back the barracuda bomber is back and his next agenda is the last boxer he fought that almost ended his career, Manny Pacquiao. Cotto wants a rematch and after winning the light middleweight title it gave Manny a reason to take the bait for an unprecedented 8th weight division title in boxing but does he really need to fight Manny? After Manny’s total domination it was a clear sign that he is not up to Manny’s speed and power. He went down two times before the referee stop the fight in the 12 and last round. There was no question, he was beaten by a much better and prepared fighter that night. On his fight with Foreman, Yuri was ahead by points at that time before his accidental slip that causes him the fight. Yuri could have won that fight if not for that unfortunate incident. Nobody’s going to watch a rematch between a fighter who has already beaten a former champion a year ago and it wasn’t even close he was dominated from the fourth round up and ended the fight in a TKO. There is no element of surprise for that one especially when Cotto was struggling on his last fight against Foreman.
The only logical fight for Cotto is no other than Antonio Margarito. It was his first loss and like any first it never goes away it’s always the itch that you direly want to scratch and it was a controversial fight especially after Margarito was caught putting plaster on his handwraps on their Mosley fight. There is a shadow of doubt if Margarito fought Cotto with loaded gloves that night. It broke his invincibility and Miguel never came back to his form after the Margarito onslaught. He needs to fight Margarito and the people want to see him fight Margarito eventhough it’s not a win-win situation for him he needs to prove that Margarito couldn’t win without his magic plasters. There is no shroud of evidence about it but at least it will silence all his critics. Forget about Pacquiao the Margarito fight is much more feasible and people would want that fight now more than the first one both fighters could earn much more and if Margarito wins it just goes to show that the first fight was not a fluke and he is the real deal and if Cotto wins it erases that painful memory and arrange a final match with Pacquiao if ever the Mayweather fight doesn’t materialize. The thought is just simple the itch you really want to scratch has a simple solution… scratch it… this fight should happen… both fighters needed it.
