Crab mentality? The metaphor refers to a pot of crabs in which one tries to escape over the side, but is relentlessly pulled down by the others in the pot as explained by Wiki.
In other words the road to success hinders on some people waiting to pull you down.
Representative Rufus Rodriguez tried to pass a resolution revoking Manny Pacquiao’s boxing license in order to stop the so called Dream matchup against Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya. He believes that the height and weight disparity between Manny and Oscar is too big that Pacquiao is endangering himself and his career. Although many would agree on Rufus sentiments but revoking Manny’s license is a bit harsh and unprecedented. The matchup was made partly with huge amount of money involved but part of it is also making history. When Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Roy Jones Jr. ruled the pound per pound rankings they were criticized for picking easy opponents and ducking the best fight around them but Manny the recognized pound per pound king today choose a different road for glory. An opponent who is two weight classes bigger than him who made history by dethroning boxing’s best with the likes of Chavez and Whitaker a bout with Oscar De La Hoya is never been easy and Manny took that challenge.
Boxing has been the most recognized contact sports for decades and as the sport evolves so as the awareness and safety measures being made by different governing bodies in boxing. So Rufus would have considered that thought… Freddie Roach would not pit his ward if he thinks its suicide. He has worked with Oscar in his bout against Mayweather if Steve Forbes who is fighting most of his fights in the 130lb division who is considered a light puncher gave Oscar a beating how much more with Manny who has speed and power.
I give my heads up to Rufus for his concern but he is a politician and boxing and politics doesn’t mix. There is always a cloud of doubt in his intentions. In a third world country there are a lot of problems to address to. The fluctuating gas prices, the MILF rebels and millions more. Why didn’t we hear Rufus addressing the continuing mismatches held in Thailand and Australia? The death of Sisnorio who has many losses than wins who fought world rated Sasakul of Thailand there were no boxing license being revoked.
Why now? Why Manny? Its an added distraction to Manny…Mismatch or not everybody deserves a boxing chance… The country needs an inspiration like Manny and politics should stay the hell out of it…We are sick and tired of those crabs.
