A host in one of the variety show in T.V. asked an overseas Filipino worker what is his motto. The man swiftly said “Six-feet below the ground” It was unheard of and funny who would have think about digging your own grave as your motto in life but different strokes for different folks like they say.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. Started his career as a lanky lightweight fighter but what made him a star was that he doesn’t duck any fighter available to fight him. His fights with Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo was a classic but fast forward and wins after wins Mayweather became cautious about fighting oppositions. He was worried about his perfect record that he is now choosing the easy money and the easy win. It was no coincidence that he fought an older De La Hoya, a smaller and immovable Ricky Hatton or a much smaller light weight fighter in Juan Manuel Marquez. Everything was planned everything was meticulously detailed in whom or where Floyd fights. When Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito, Paul Williams and Miguel Cotto rule the welterweight division everybody was calling out on Mayweather to fight them but Floyd opt to retire to protect his beloved record he then came back against Marquez. When Pacquiao knocked Miguel Cotto out Floyd was put on the corner and had no choice but to say yes on the biggest fight in the planet with millions of money on the table.
The negotiations on the first part were surprisingly easy but on the later part all those excuses and accusations came out. Who are we kidding Floyd will not fight Manny if he had avoided those Mosleys and Cottos before why not now. Actually before Golden Boy and top rank started negotiations the Mayweather team is already preparing a fight against the brother whom he knock out years ago Matthew Hatton. So basically Pacquiao in any way is not an option for Floyd. Who would pay to see a fight with Floyd and Matthew Hatton? To keep it in the right perspective Floyd should remember that he needs Pacquiao not the other way around as for Manny there are still some broad options waiting for him he may fight Yuri Foreman, Andre Berto or even Paul Williams. With millions in IRS debt and a looming litigation case Floyd is losing money and we are not talking about thousands but tens of millions of dollars. He is digging his own grave or maybe he shares the same motto like the OFW person in T.V. ..Six feet below the ground.
Happy New Year everyone!!!
