Last May 2009 Manny Pacquiao challenged Ricky Hatton’s IBO and ring magazine light welterweight title in an unlikely stunning fashion. It was competitive in paper but the result was a wipe out knocking the Hitman in round two with his vaunted left. It was on that same week that Mayweather went back to boxing after being retired for a year. He could have waited a couple of days to challenge Manny for his pound per pound status but instead announced a fight against Juan Manuel Marquez with just hours before the Pacquiao-Hatton fight. Floyd dominated the smaller Marquez and Manny won a TKO against welterweight champ Miguel Cotto. Now the road is free from obstruction and the two best boxers in our lifetime will come face to face to settle the score. The date has been set but Floyd has been adding every stumbling block he can think of. He doesn’t want to fight in Dallas wherein he and Manny are guaranteed a whooping $25 million and can accommodate up to 100,000 seats. He wants a 10 ounce gloves and the fight should feature his name first (Mayweather-Pacquiao). His team wants an Olympic type of testing before the fight to satisfy their allegations against Steroids used. If that’s the case why not put everyone on the team for an Olympic type of testing and drug used for sure Roger Mayweather and Sr. will beg to disagree. The recent issues now is that Mayweather wants a leeway on the 147 welterweight limit it’s like giving him consent to come to the fight overweight like what he did to Marquez. He can make all those demands but certainly not the weight. Limits are set to make the battlefield equal and rightfully the fight should be done at 147 because Floyd is fighting for Manny’s WBO welterweight belt. The next issue would be that Floyd is contemplating in fighting for a tune-up match before the Pacquiao fight and fights Matthew Hatton in England. Who would pay to see Mayweather fights the brother of the former light welterweight champion Ricky whom he knockout years ago? They say if you really want it there are lots of ways to do it but if you don’t there are lots of excuses to make. There is no other significant fight than Pacquiao and this is his time to prove to everybody that he can walk the walk. Pacquiao knows this is the fight everybody wants to see and a busted ear drum and some bruises didn’t even give Manny second thoughts in signing the fight. The line is drawn and the date has been set all Floyd has to do is sign the contract and the historic fight will happen. He was evading Manny right from the moment he returned lacing the gloves maybe Floyd sees the fight as a no win situation when a bigger man dominate a smaller man but we all know Manny is a legit welterweight now or maybe Floyd knows that he has found the perfect dancing partner the fighter who could outwork his speed and power, the fighter who could break his shoulder roll and most of all the fighter who in any other way could score a win against him. Let’s cut the BS and let everyone see a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight next year sign the damn paper.
