In about two minutes left in the second quarter, the Houston Rockets point guard Jeremy Lin, slides the ball with a one-handed bounce pass as James Harden slams the ball with force.
The Houston Rockets fans have finally found the reason to bring back the smiles that have been missing since Yao Ming’s departure. This is the new Rockets, the new hope for a team that has been deprived of so many wins and promises. Lin and Harden knew they have a bigger hole to fill in. It’s not going to be an overnight success. It would take the whole team’s commitment, and the word which we normally hear – change.
This seems to be the perfect Cinderella story, two phenomenal players who never got the chance to prove what they are worth. The Rockets knew that getting Lin and Harden would give them a deeper back court that adds youth and energy to the team.
Every time Jeremy or James scored; the crowd jumped on their feet and rose up for appreciation. They don’t have a Lebron James and Dwayne Wade or a Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash tandem, but they knew they have something special. With all the doubts and worthiness of their multi-million contracts, Houston knew that both players are worth every penny. Harden who were the NBA’s sixth man player, will have a different role now – from coming up the bench to being the franchise player. And the undrafted Jeremy Lin, who had been cut by the Rockets before his break out season with the New York Knicks, will be the team’s starting point guard. Everything happened with a purpose. And somehow the basketball Gods have let both players find their way to Houston’s Toyota Center.
When the anticipation and all the praises died down, Lin and Harden knows that this is the time to work. Failure is never an option, and even if they fall short of expectations. With all the adversities and frustrations, they’ve been through; they knew how to bounce back. All in all, success will all have to be judge on how many games they’ve won.
It’s been three games so far, and they only got to practice three times together. But somehow the chemistry seems to be so far clicking between them. Maybe they are perfect for each other, or maybe they just knew, that in order to win… they have to work together.
Houston is their team now… no excuses and hopefully no more frustrations.
