This used to be an unusual place for the Memphis Grizzlies with Allen Iverson wearing a Grizzlies uniform in the bench. The sub level team who were never been in the radar of NBA fans for quite some time have all eyes set on them but after the hype died down and with Iverson disgruntled and left Memphis everything now is back to normal. The 93-79 loss to Portland put them back to their good old days and although it was another setback to the Grizzlies they seem to be contented having to wipe off that chip on their shoulders.
The thought of Allen Iverson months ago being jobless with no team interested on him gives you an impression that AI really has an egotistic problem. He doesn’t care much about practice or having good relationships with his teammates he doesn’t want to come off the bench and he has proven time and time again that he is not a team player. There was a reason why the Philadelphia 76ers traded him, there was a reason why the Denver Nuggets squeezed in a lucrative deal for the Detroit Pistons to get rid of him and there is a much a bigger reason why the Pistons move him up to free agency. This is not about stats because the 27ppg. 6.2 Assists and 2.2 steals are way impressive not to sign him in. If it was fantasy basketball I would sign him in a heartbeat but beyond the realms of fantasy there is always a world called reality. He’s a damn good basketball player but his ego made him uncoachable and unwanted. Being with the Grizzlies give him a new lease on life it could be a turning point for his career whether he goes forward or he stays the way he is and we all know what he chooses. This is AI’s ultimate test and he failed big time and teams are anticipating whether this time AI would lead a young team to their full potential but most important is if AI would be a good team player and how would he deal if he is required to come off the bench. I was happy about AI given a chance to play to prove his worth but I was wrong to see him as a changed person. You can never teach old dogs new tricks. It’s not too late for change and I hope he grabs the opportunity to prove everyone wrong in Grizzlies. But what am I kidding Iverson would never think of that egotistic person always think that the world revolves around them they are blinded by the truth and in AI’s case he is blinded about his so called greatness.
Even if he stops playing the world will continue to revolve and people will continue to move forward. Memphis, like it or not will continue to be a rebuilding team for now and with or without Iverson the Grizzlies will continue to move on and from the looks of it the Grizzlies might consider Iverson’s indefinite leave to definite.
