As the confetti falls down, Kevin Durant with his gray Warriors cap, bowed to his mother before embracing her tight in center court. And while Kevin was interviewed his mother Wanda grabbed Kevin’s face and said “You did it, you did it,” she told him. “Look at me. You did it.”
Just five years ago, Kevin Durant was hugging his mother tight. But it wasn’t a celebration or anything. Lebron James’ former Miami Heat team in the 2012 NBA finals manhandled KD and his Oklahoma City Thunders. Wanda Durant felt the pain and devastation, the frustration of seeing your son weeping. But she just hugged Kevin and cried with him. No matter what, a mother’s love will always keep us strong – The one sturdy foundation when everything is unbearable and when things came crumbling down. Kevin Durant hold on to his mother and a promise to go back to the NBA finals. The road was bumpy, long and frustrating but KD’s eyes are already fixed on his destination. Many criticized him for joining the already star-studded Warriors team, but it wasn’t just a choice, it was more of a necessity. There is no other way through the NBA finals; everyone should go through Lebron James. And KD knows it, and to remember a glimpse of what transpired in 2012, it was enough for him to join Golden State. With all the criticism and harsh statements hurled into him, KD hold on to his mother again for strength.
In a twist of fate, KD formed his own super team and won the championship 4-1 against Lebron James. Identically the same record James’ Heat won their championship in 2012.
KD made true to his promise as he bowed down to his mother as a sign of respect and inspiration. While Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and the rest of the Warriors celebrated their victory. This victory is super special for Durant and his mother.
With KD’s arms wrapped around his mother… after five years….
Kevin Durant finally did it.
