Lakers News 2012: Dwight Howard’s redemption

Dwight Howard feared that he will be compared to Shaquille O’neal They both have the same dominance of the court and strong physique that makes it hard not to compare both centers. That’s what made Howard to crush out the Los Angeles Lakers as his preferred destination after demanding a trade from Orlando Magic. He wanted to be with Deron Williams in the Brooklyn Nets. However, fate intervened. After months of intense negotiations and heavy drama, Dwight still ends up wearing the purple and gold Laker uniform after all.

With all his defensive brilliance and powerful offense, he still needs to validate his greatness. He broke many hearts in Orlando, and the only way for people to forget, is to win a championship. Lebron James had done it, after making his famous free agency drama dubbed as “the decision.” How easily we forget about everything after James won his first title.

Somehow Dwight needs to start a new career, away from controversies and away from his indecisiveness… A title would change it all.

Three years ago, Dwight and the Magic went against the Lakers for an NBA title, and they were clearly dominated, giving them only one win throughout the series.

It was crystal clear to Howard – having a championship formula is putting the right pieces to the puzzle. After acquiring Steve Nash, the veteran All-star point guard and signing Antawn Jamison, the Lakers are definitely back into being a championship contender. And Howard has the chance to be a part of something big.

The difference between Shaq and Dwight is that, Howard knows the Lakers will always be Kobe’s team. Two to three years from now, this would be his, and this is how the paradigm shift of leadership should be.

Orlando gave up another superman, but this time, they got something back. They never want to see Dwight go, but it was beyond their control. This is a divorce that is bound to happen.

Fresh start for both parties…

Orlando will move on… and for the Dwight Howard, a championship for redemption.
