In loosing don’t ever put your head down especially when you put your sheer guts on the line…
ACL injuries years before proved to be a career ending injury. Known as Anterior Cruciate Ligament one of the major four major ligaments of the knee it is critical to knee stability which commonly associate as a sports-related injury pointing out to rough plays or unprecedented accidents which happens mostly in basketball and soccer. Fighting for a screen in the fourth quarter Al Harrington the former Indiana Pacers player tore his ACL on a 98-94 loss to the Boston Celtics. He went a season ending reconstruction surgery. Years back it would have been a long road to recovery where only several prominent players have gained back to their old self after an ACL injury players like Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing and Ron Harper. Teams are hesitant to sign up players who have undergone ACL injury and although surgery have already proven to make wonders with highly sophisticated technology they are weary of the after effects of the surgery mentally and physically. Leon Powe the sturdy power forward of the Boston Celtics have been on a breakout year in the 2007-08 season scored a career high 27 points against the Nets and his most notable performance was against the Lakers in game 2 when he scored 21 points for a 108-102 victory. Being homeless for years and put into foster care Leon started playing ball to get his ticket way out of poverty. His mother died days before while he was playing in the state championship his Cinderella life story ended like any other fairy tale…”and he lived happily ever after…” Powe was drafted in the NBA and got a name while playing for the former champion Celtics.
This is not the first injury that Powe suffered during his freshman year when he was leading the PAC-10 in rebounding he suffered a knee injury and didn’t play his sophomore year in California Golden Bears many doubted that he will be back after his surgery but Powe proved his critics wrong when he worked doubly hard improving his game and produced a double-double performance leading his team to the NCAA tournament. In the Playoffs when the Celtics played the Bulls in game 2, Leon Powe tore his ACL and meniscus everybody thought he was done for the night but he endured his ACL injury for three minutes before he was taken out. It was his sheer determination and will power which gave him a different edge among the Celtic’s forwards but going to next season the Celtics refused to give Powe an offer sheet. All the hard work and all the meaningful plays have sum up to nothing. But Leon continues to put his head down and working extra hard on his rehabilitation the Celtics turned their focus on Rasheed Wallace the 34 year old veteran who once led the league in technical fouls and signed him for a 3-year deal. Leon Powe is only 25 years old and he has gone a lot of adversities in his life… he knows how it felt to loose a love one, he knows to strive when there was really no one else out there for him but most of all he knows how to win… As of Aug.2 the Cleveland Cavaliers offered Leon Powe a contract.
It’s ok to put your head down sometimes because we never know a dollar bill would come up… to Leon this maybe a blessing in disguise… Goodluck!
