Manny Pacquiao could have stayed as a light welterweight for the remaining of his illustrious career until he retires while the no.1 kingpin of his division Ricky Hatton got whipped by Manny there are still a number of solid and quality opponents in the 140lbs division. He can fight Marquez if he wants to for the third time or his fellow Wild card fighter Amir Khan or IBF champion Juan Urango but aside from making history being the only fighter to win 7 divisional championships Manny has a lot to prove to the boxing world that he has what it takes to be boxing’s greatest in our generation.
From Marquez to the Hatton fight questions have been haunting Manny’s greatness and that’s why Manny took the Miguel Cotto fight. After outpointing Marquez everybody questioned David Diaz if he was a legit opponent for Manny being the weakest title holder in the lightweight division. Many thought Pacman couldn’t handle a lightweight power but the result was overwhelming disposing David Diaz in a stunning fashion that saw Diaz outclassed and out boxed for the whole fight. When Manny won many thought Diaz was too slow and that he was the weakest link among the lightweight champions and then came the Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya everybody thought Oscar would breezed his way through the fight but the result ended with Manny putting his arms all the way up after Oscar quit on the stool going to the ninth round. Pacquiao wasn’t credited for that when many thought Oscar was dehydrated going to the fight. Ricky Hatton was Pacquiao’s ultimate test there was no catch weight being set and it was a legitimate fight and after Manny obliterated Hatton they also criticized that Hatton is tailor made for Manny. The November 14 fight serves as the period on every statement Manny has made amidst all the money and prestige Manny is silencing every critic every negative comments every doubtful Thomas to his carved legacy. This is his ultimate test the mother of all exams… and so let the countdown begin… 6 more days to go and the clock is ticking… tick tick tick tick..
