There was a kind of uneasy atmosphere on Marquez’s locker as the camera focus on Juan Manuel’s worried face. Within minutes he will have to fight one of boxing’s greats and a former pound per pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. The speed and power maybe something but Marquez is more anxious on the excess baggage that Mayweather weighs on the day of the tip in since Floyd was two pounds over on their stipulated contract weight at 144lbs even if Marquez is $600,000 dollars richer with $300k per pound per weight above the catch limit he would have love to see Mayweather make weight than the money. It was so crystal clear while touching gloves that Floyd is way bigger than Marquez It was like watching Ivan Calderon against a light weight fighter.
The fight… it was not even called a fight it was more like a sparring session for Floyd, Marquez was out-class, outhustled and frustrated with Mayweather’s brilliant footwork, defense and lightning quick reflexes. As soon as Marquez hit the canvass in the 2nd round it was more lopsided all the way to the 12 rounds. Mayweather never showed ring rust as he rolled his shoulders on defense and showed superb boxing skills. He wants his crown back and although a win against Marquez prove his back in the business he still has to prove to one small guy in boxing and that happens to be the current pound per pound champion Manny Pacquiao. But with still Miguel Cotto ahead Manny is in no hurry to fight Mayweather and personally he still needs a win against Cotto to prove he can fight the faster and bigger Floyd. Even if the fight would not materialize there are still a handful of fighters who can give Mayweather a fight let’s say someone with his own size?
It was understandable to see Marquez’s uneasiness maybe he already seen the last fight of his colourful career or maybe he already sense that Mayweather will never be an easy fight in any other way. Floyd can talk trashed, he can make you look bad the bottom line is he can talk the talk and walk the walk. He is definitely back and his taking it one small guy at a time.
