Miguel Cotto-Ricardo Mayorga: A Slugfest

Ricardo Mayorga tried to snatch Miguel Cotto ‘s belt then shove him back. It was their press conference held yesterday for their March 12 fight. Miguel wanted to retaliate but instead kept his cool and smiled.
He always let his fist do all the talking in the ring. As he clearly understands that what Mayorga was doing was just to get into his head. But that will never happen… It’s just not him…

Miguel knows the gravity of this fight. Mayorga can joke around but at the end of the day. Cotto wants everybody to know that the joke is on him. There is so much at stake and so many promises for his re-birth career. You can see the seriousness and the determination on his face. He means business, and Mayorga is just like any business trip that he wants to get done with. He wanted a rematch either Manny Pacquiao or Antonio Margarito or a fight with the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez’s son, Julio Jr. once he takes care of business.

Mayorga is still dangerous, even at 37 years old. He may be a step slower now. However, it wasn’t his skills that brought him those 23 knockouts on his record it was always been his power. He fights awkward and doesn’t methodologically dissect his opponents. However, a win is a win, and it’s just another way of skinning the cat. He will be the bigger guy when he faces Cotto in the ring. He just needs one punch… one power shot and sees how a former light welterweight fighter could handle.

Emmanuel Steward, Miguel’s trainer has renewed Cotto’s boxing skills. He wanted his fighter to fight intelligently against a Matador, who only knows one direction by moving forward. He predicted the fight will end with Cotto delivering a killer hook to Mayorga’s body. But that will never happen… Miguel will always be a warrior, and he doesn’t mind doing a slugfest against Mayorga. The way he sees it… the fight will end with a knockout. You can’t teach old dogs new tricks. He boxed intelligently in the first few rounds against Manny Pacquiao then turned back to his old self when he tasted Manny’s power. Outside the ring, he is a class gentle man but the moment Mayorga hits him, he will have to make him pay.

In order to win against the Matador then you will have to be the bull… Miguel can box intelligently but we all know this would be a slugfest… Cotto will never give up… that will never happen…

because simply it’s just not him.
