NBA Diary: Lakers(1-2) The rise of the Machine

Being down 0-2 and there back against the wall the Lakers made a final push in the fourth quarter and after a see saw battle in the last 4 possessions the Lakers sealed the deal with a dagger from the self proclaimed Machine Sasha Vujacic.
Kobe was his usual MVP form but his main cast felt short with Gasol and Odom’s offense was a no show on the most important game for the Lakers.
Tactical match-up between Phil Jackson and Doc Rivers was very intense. Phil got the most of Doc as he switch guard roles when Kobe is guarding the young point guard Rondo making Kobe freely doubling Garnet and Pierce while letting Rondo shoot the basketball.
The Lakers contained Pierce aggression by putting him on a defensive mode and Pierce got into foul trouble early in the game. The Boston’s triumvirate offense had only a combined points of 44 which is no where near to their usual average 70 combined points.
The Boston had bad spacing and sporadic offense which was very costly.
Free throws were unlikely for both teams and in a game where everything counts both teams were missing free throws…
The Lakers built there lead to 11 points but was cut short by Boston’s Ray Allen hitting crucial three points and drawing double teams opening Eddie House and Posey for set shots. Boston led the Lakers by 6 points in the fourth quarter and Kobe right away went to work. Sasha Vujacic scored a career high of 21 points and was the x factor in game 3.
Lakers with a renewed spirit will go on to game 4 hoping to level the series.
Kobe needs the contribution of Gasol and Odom this time although they were crucial in some plays in the fourth quarter but Odom should stay out of foul trouble and Gasol needs to find his spot and needs to do a lot of aggressive moves.
Kobe was aggressive the whole game and with all the drives and pull up jumpers Boston still went toe to toe with the Lakers in spite of a bad game. Sasha Vujajic provides the needed offense for the Lakers. Sasha has been a great help to the Lakers but they don’t have to rely on his inconsistency after all the Machine always has a limit. Calling Odom and Gasol your offense is badly needed in game 4…
