As the clock run down and the buzzer sounded. The Los Angeles Lakers are in for another setback after losing to the Denver Nuggets 109-120 on a rough start at 0-4. The Lakers tried to cut down Denver’s lead at 3 points in the fourth quarter but only to falter in the last 2 minutes of the game. Kobe was only 1-5 from the 3 point line and a total of 4-11 field goals in almost 30 minutes of playing time. He was 0-3 when he fired this shot
While head coach Byron Scott, is looking for answers, it is very clear that the Lakers need a revamp in rotation. Have you heard about the “Marshall Swindle”? It was a chess move by Frank Marshall wherein he would appear to be totally lost in position, then he would sneak-in on his unaware opponent for the win. There was one instance that he just killed his queen just to make his opponent relax and confident, and still Frank escape with a win. If you don’t see any logic on why I talked about this, it’s because even if you just have pawns and rooks with proper placing and strategy everything is possible. The Lakers as a team have depth, experience and athleticism. There is no reason why the Lakers suck right now, especially with Kobe’s last season. It made me think Jahlil Okafor could have been a good pick, with an undersized team with Julius Randle and Brandon Bass. And Roy Hibbert still finding his way back.
But it’s hard for D’Angelo Russell and Marcelo Huertas to be effective if they are ask to play dual positions (Point and Shooting guard). Same as Jordan Clarkson directing the offense, when he is effective off the ball and going to the basket. Brandon Bass should play his original position at power forward instead of being a backup center to Roy Hibbert. And why not use Metta Word Peace or should we say give peace a chance? He might be a bit old but he still can defend well. While Kobe Bryant is in a slump you might just wonder if there is even a glitter of hope for the purple and gold team.
Marshall Swindle… maybe this is what Byron Scott is doing all along, maybe he was just fooling us as we go through this season.
But as the Lakers are in another losing streak, this has got to stop. Byron Scott just needs to tweak his rotation and make a defense oriented team.
Sometimes by losing a battle you find a new way to win the war.
