Floyd Mayweather Jr. Reportedly postponed his July bout with Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez due to a rib injury he suffered on practice. “He tried to work through it. He really did not want to postpone the fight, but it came to the point where he could barely sit,” Schaefer said. “He could not train, he could not move and there was really not much of a choice.” The bout will have to be rescheduled with still no date being set so that makes Mayweather on an extended retirement. There are talks about Floyd’s injury which led to a conspiracy knowing their July 18 fight was not doing very well in ticket sales with less than 3000 being sold. Recession would have something to do with it because it made people more logical and practical in buying what’s needed and worth it and they would rather watch a Cotto-Clottey rematch rather than watching two defensive specialists fighting. Reality bites with Mayweather who claims he is the biggest draw in boxing which was never validated, fighting easy fights and retiring when their are a handful of legitimate fighters in a star studded division. Ricky Hatton and Oscar DeLahoya have bigger fan base and people are paying to watch them fight not Mayweather.
Floyd who announced their Marquez fight on the eve of the Pacquiao-Hatton fight demands a 60-40 purse if ever he fights Manny but that is unlikely to happen since the current pound per pound king rightfully deserves the bigger slice of the pie dismantling two of Mayweather’s biggest fights opponents in a destructive manner bringing them to retirement. Unless Mayweather comes to his senses this fight would never happen and as for Pacquiao there are tons of options available for him. A clash with Miguel Cotto is now on negotiations after Cotto won a split decision against Joshua Clottey last Saturday in a very exciting and bloody confrontation If that fight happens then the fans are in for a treat worth seeing for a fight which I won’t bother digging deep in my pockets for this one.
A fight with Mayweather and Pacquiao will unlikely to happen this year and with Manny announcing maybe his last year in boxing after intentions of running in congress in the Philippines next year maybe this fight would never happen at all…we all hope not.
