Daniel Ponce Deleon with pride demolishes Rey Boomx2 Bautista last year avoiding a possible shut out of the Mexico-Philippines boxing world cup. Ponce was in high spirit after beating Gerry Peñalosa and annihilating the hopes of a young Boomx2.
True to his word Deleon isn’t afraid of fighting anyone in his division and last Saturday with just 2 minutes in round 1 Deleon was clobbered and the undefeated fighter from Puerto Rico grab Ponce’s title like a rendezvous with Boomx2 only Ponce got the beating this time around.
The supposed Rematch
What if Ponce Deleon accepted Gerry Peñalosa’s offer or a rematch with Boomx2? Why not? He has beaten both guys and with lesser risk he could have kept his title and earn more money in return. Gerry could have given him a hard time and Boomx2 would be smarter but Ponce’s undoubting power and unorthodox style makes him special he could very well slug it out with both fighters.
Juan Manuel Lopez proved to everyone he is the new kingpin in the 122 pound division. A fight with either Israel Vasquez or Rafael Marquez would be a good fight to see. Juanma can slug it out with Vasquez and he can box and play tactical with Marquez either of these fighters Juanma can be a good match-up. Daniel Ponce Deleon suddenly got out of the picture and given Juanma takes a rematch with Deleon I still can’t see the hopes of Ponce winning.
I think the logical thing to do is to fight Gerry Penalosa if Gerry still has his eyes on Ponce. Gerry is aiming to earn a 3rd belt title in another division joining Manny Pacquiao and with time not on Gerry’s side I don’t think Gerry would dare to challenge Ponce with no belt to offer and with a little pride left in him. A fight with Boomx2 would be a much feasible fight and with both fighters back to square one Ponce would be back on track if he wins a rematch on Boomx2 and Boomx2 in the other hand would have redemption and a crack on Juanma’s title.
Daniel Ponce Deleon got a taste of bitter defeat in the hands of a good fighter but given his ferocity and experienced he is still a fighter fans look forward to. This time around he had to do it one step at a time… Ponce this time will minimize his aggression and play smart. Boomx2 had a great lesson on the hands of Ponce now it’s his time and his call after all he won’t be a world champion for nothing.
