Push, push, push… That’s how Reggie Williams put on his mind, whenever he is on the court with the basketball.
There were no pressures, no expectations… It’s just Reggie, the ball and a whole lot of future ahead. He always welcomes every failure as an opportunity. A chance to prove something, a chance to be someone who others perceived him not to be…
After high school, it was only VMI a military school in Virginia, who gave him a scholarship. He was undrafted in 2008 and played two summer camps but came out futile on his hopes on landing an NBA team. However, it was never a reason to fail. It was never a reason to buckle down and drown himself of sadness. He played overseas and got drafted in the D-league by the Sioux Falls Skyforce until he got a 10 day contract by Golden State and immediately signed him for the rest of the season, averaging 15.2 points in almost 50 percent shooting in just 24 games.
He is not the most athletic, and he looks like he needed to shed some pounds off. Undersize with an average lateral quickness and ball handling skills it looks like Williams is a typical journey man who will likely to play in the NBA and finish his career overseas.
Let’s just put it this way, he is not the perfect partner for your daughter’s prom date but what you failed to see is that he is the perfect gentle man. He may not be Kobe Bryant or a Lebron James, but he still gets the job done.
His wide basketball IQ will always be his strength. In crucial times, you would be confident in giving the ball to Williams because he certainly knows what to do. He always finds a way to score even with such an unconventional shooting form.
Push, push, push… as Reggie Williams ran towards the basket then scores in transition.
Now Williams finally got the attention… With the departure of Kelenna Azuibuike, Anthony Morrow and Corey Maggette in the roster it looks like he will have to welcome the spotlight with an added pressure a proposition that Reggie readily embraced.
His talent and his achievements are slowly making waves in the NBA right now that it would be seemingly hard to ignore…Push, push, push… as I hastily scribbled this article.
