The 2014 World Cup game will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the country often credited with coming up with the sport. This event determines the best international side in the world out of the competing 32 teams. Brazil, as the host nation, is automatically allocated a place, but the remaining 31 teams have to fight for a spot through a qualification process.
Will the U.S. Men`s National Team be at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil? It`s still too soon to tell.
Although the U.S. Team has won so far, the victories’ haven`t been easy. They had a stressful win over Antigua and Barbuda, where they almost blew a 2-0 lead. Then they had an upsetting match against Guatemala, which ended in a tie.
That tie put the U.S. Men`s National Team into a tie with Jamaica for the lead in Group A. While both teams have four points, the team from the USA is ahead on goal differential.
As of November 2012, there were still 120 teams contending for the 31 remaining qualification places.
The U.S. Team joins Mexico, Jamaica, Panama, Honduras and Costa Rica as the last six teams scheduled to play games in a round-robin system that runs between February 6, 2013 and October 15, 2013.
Each team will play every other team two times, once away and once at home, for a total of ten games.
The top three of the six teams from the round-robin event will automatically progress to play in the 2014 World Cup. The fourth placed team will play two games against whichever team wins the Oceanic region, for the final spot.
The U.S. got a tough draw, playing three of its first four games on the road. This includes the opening match in Honduras on March 22, Mexico on March 26 and Jamaica on June 7, 2013.
In the last four World Cup qualifying cycles, the U.S. Men`s National team gained at least one point from its very first match. Additionally, the U.S. team has had a lot of success against Honduras when meeting them in qualifying matches, with a 4-1-1- overall record and an unbeaten 3-0-1 record when playing away from home.
The U.S. team will face its first opponent at home when they play Costa Rica on March 22. The U.S. has a record of 5-1-2 when playing Costa Rica at home in qualifying matches. Unlike the other five teams, the U.S. must decide where to play its matches since they don`t have a designated national stadium.
Will Team US be at the 2014 Brazil World Cup? Who knows? The team has qualified for the previous six World Cups since 1990 and are looking forward to qualify for the seventh time. However, the U.S. Men`s National Team would really like to be the one holding up the trophy for the cheering crowds at the end of the 2014 World Cup.
Since it will still be a while before you can watch the next World Cup, why not practice some soccer moves of your own? The great thing about soccer is that all you really need is a ball, which you can find at online stores such as sportsballshop.co.uk for some great prices.
