Baron Davis after a sore and bruised knee scored at will against the mighty Dallas team… the first 8 seeded team to win against the no.1 team in the NBA. It was Baron’s year highlighted with his one hand slam against Andrei Kirilenko. Baron Davis went on a scoring spree and the Don Nelson mentored Warriors are adapting pretty well with the run and gun fast pace offense.
The season ended with Jason Richardson traded to Charlotte Bobcats a move with a rebuilding motive. Baron knew his days as a warrior was almost over. This season the warriors failed to make a spot on the playoffs and although the Warriors offered Baron a good amount of money he opted out of his contract and went shopping.
Baron Davis chooses to be near his family and friends and decided to sign up on the struggling Clippers. At 29 Baron who had undergone a turn ACL injury on college and had numerous injuries and leg problems has been offered to a 5 year contract worth $65 million a deal which can only be made official after July 9 when the NBA lifts its signing and trade suspension. Baron will likely be joining Elton Brand as the new 1-2 punch in LA.
Baron gives LA a new perspective and fills the void on the point guard position. He creates a triple-double threat with his passing, scoring and rebounding ability. He could really complement Elton Brand’s offense with some pick and roll plays and could create lots of mismatch by over powering smaller guards. But do the Clippers made the right decision?
I do believe the Clippers made a good decision but was it the best? I don’t think so… Baron has a shoot first mentality and has the tendency to make bad decisions on the court. Mike Dunleavy has no problem in dealing with that. The Clippers needed his 25.3 points, 6.5 assists, 2.9 steals with 4.5 rebounds per game the Clipper’s motion offense could very well adapt a run and gun offense with Davis. I think the Clippers needed a Jason Kidd type of point guard but nonetheless Davis clearly compensates with his offense and triple double performance. Although injuries plays a bigger factor on Baron’s gang up knee. Given Baron Stays healthy the full 82 games on the season the Clippers are definitely on the run for a playoff spot.
Baron Davis performance on the 2007 Playoffs exceeds expectations. A sore and bruised knee never made a hindrance to Baron. He made a good run in the playoffs. And his tenacity and determination has been a proven product of Baron’s hard work.
The Clippers will be parading a new roster this coming season… The drafting of a reliable shooting guard in Eric Gordon and with Brand’s new contract the Clippers would be a team to look forward to… Although a playoff spot is still unclear and uncertain but with Baron nothing is impossible. Dallas had to learn from it the hard way. The Baron has arrived Clipper fans lets all rise
