It was in May 31, 2008 where two of the best welterweights where scheduled to trade punches in the ring. Shane Mosley who admitted in the court taking steroids was asked by Zab Judah’s camp to take an independent blood testing beyond the Nevada Athletic commission’s standard drug test procedures but Shane’s promotional company Golden Boy Promotions headed by CEO Richard Schaefer insisted on the Nevada commission’s testing procedure that it was sufficient enough to determine any steroids or performance enhancing drugs found on any fighters system. But it wasn’t what Schaefer said during their on-going negotiation on the biggest fight in our era the Pacquiao-Mayweather bout. He, the Mayweathers and the GBP asked Manny to undergo Olympic style testing which requires random blood and urine testing anytime of the day. Manny did agree but requested only three blood testing because taking blood on the day or a day before the fight weakens him like what Freddie Roach said “it’s like having sex before the big fight”… call it superstition; a table spoon or a bag of blood doesn’t affect anyone physically but mentally it does. It already happened to Manny when he fought Erik Morales on their first match so basically it makes sense and what’s the difference between taking a blood a day before the fight or minutes after it? It’s not like any other liquid or substance that you can just flush it on the drain we are talking about drugs and PEDs which normally gets into your system and stays a little longer. It was only a falsely accusation on which no one can back it up with evidence the fact that Manny passed all the necessary test with a clean slate means it was all hardwork and determination that made him pound per pound best. To make matters worst it all started by a drug pusher who was convicted for drug trafficking in 1993 and served a five year term in jail. Mayweather Sr. Started everything when his fighter Ricky Hatton was knocked out by Manny in just two rounds that made him more envious on Pacquiao’s and Roach’s achievements. Last Christmas day Manny fought back and said
“I have instructed my promoter, Bob Arum, head of Top Rank Inc., to help me out in the filing of the case as soon as possible because I have had people coming over to me now asking if I really take performance-enhancing drugs and [if] I have cheated my way into becoming the No. 1 boxer in the world, I maintain and assure everyone that I have not used any form or kind of steroids and that my way to the top is a result of hard work, hard work, hard work and a lot of blood spilled from my past battles in the ring, not outside of it. I have no idea what steroids look like, and my fear in God has kept me safe and victorious through all these years. In a direct challenge to Mayweather, Pacquiao said “Now, I say to Floyd Mayweather Jr., don’t be a coward and face me in the ring, mano-a-mano and shut your big, pretty mouth, so we can show the world who is the true king of the ring”. As far as I can remember Floyd Jr. Openly said Manny haven’t been vocal about fighting him now the naturally mild mannered Manny is issuing Mayweather for a fight and even calling him a coward. And lastly Pacquiao said “Pretty Boy Floyd, face me instead on March 13 in Las Vegas and not in some talk show forum or in press releases written for you by people who don’t even know me. Face me in a fight where I get to punch back. You and your cohorts have accused me of using performance-enhancing drugs. Now, I say, the burden of proof should now come from you, not me,”.
Golden Boy Promotions on their press release emphasize about levelling the playing field but did Mayweather Jr. came to the Marquez fight on the stipulated catch weight? Nope instead he went two pounds heavier and the naturally bigger Floyd handily gave the lightweight Marquez a beating. If GBP back in 2008 said they have outmost trust on the Nevada Commission when their boy Mosley was asked to do necessary blood testing why is it they are now asking for an Olympic-type testing? Pacquiao did not disagree upon the blood test but he only wanted to have three blood testing which will be right on their first press conference then in February and then after the fight I think that’s rightfully fair for all the doubting Thomases out there. They have been making those mind boggling demands since the beginning of the negotiations and they think all those non-sense talk have no retribution but now they taste the fruits of Karma. They have been pushing Manny right from the beginning but when push comes to shove Manny is now fighting back. As Manny’s statement concluded…
“These people think they are doing the sport a great service. They are not To Floyd, despite all these accusations, may your Christmas be merry and I will see you in court, soon, too.”
