A dust of wind blew right in front of Amir Khan’s face. He brushed away the speck of dust and fixed his eyes towards the prize. He was like a hungry lion intently watching on his prey, calculating every move ready to pounce on the hapless victim… this was for one an elusive prize not every fighter could have.
To fight with Manny Pacquiao is like hitting on a million dollar lotto. The only catch is you are just half way there. Landing a fight means, you still have to fight. Moreover, Manny is no easy task. He is way past his prime at 38 years old, but that could be his opponents waterloo thinking Pacquiao has lost a step. Then it became a different story inside the ring.
Amir had just turned 30 years old. He could very well go toe to toe with Manny, matching his speed and precision punches. And with Manny’s aggression slowed down after being KOed by Juan Manuel Marquez. This could be a perfect match for Khan. Never mind, about getting knocked out cold during their heated sparring sessions before with Pacquiao. This could be his opportunity. A chance to finally be back into boxing’s pound per pound list, and a chance to be part of history against the only fighter who won eight different division titles. Amir’s time is now.
For a moment, Amir and Manny agreed to fight. However, their promoter Bob Arum vetoed everything. Bob was just protecting his assets. Manny has two more fights left, while Amir has still a lot on his tank. Khan move up divisions higher just to fight Canelo Alvarez on his last fight. It was a bold move, and the same time stupid. Amir’s glass jaw is always his Achilles heel. Breidis Prescott, Danny Garcia and Canelo have one common denominator… they are all heavy hitters. And Manny will have a field day picking his spots and throw heavy punches right into his jaw.
But Amir Khan is still intently watching for that elusive prize. From a speck of dust, right into Bob Arum’s body… like a hungry lion, Amir is waiting keenly. Brushing everything aside and hoping to finally fight Manny.
Whatever happens, it’s a different story when they are on the ring.
The prey becomes the lion.
