Will We Ever See A Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fight?

Gary Poole on his book entitled “Pacman” said on the last part “Whomever Manny Pacquiao fights, he will be shadowboxing underneath a small photo of Floyd Mayweather Jr., imagining how he would vanquish his biggest rival.”

A fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still a dimmed possibility. Even though talks have been resurfacing after five years of verbal wars and gag orders, there are still no signed contracts yet. Many speculated that it will be announced in Christmas, New Year, Martin Luther, Super bowl and yesterday’s NBA all-star game, however nothing was announced.

The Root of the problem

In order to solve the problem you have to dig deep and get the root of the problem. A fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. ten years ago would be a laughable matter. Manny is campaigning at the super featherweight division (130 lbs) while Floyd is in the Welter weight division (147 lbs.) the disparity of weight is outrageous. However, when Manny is moving up on divisions and slaying bigger opponents the people started talking about the possibility of a mega fight. The David versus Goliath matchup has elevated to a mere equal. Manny has earned his right to fight Floyd, and Floyd as the top pound per pound king should obliged on his challenger. In a perfect world that would be the case, but with contractual agreements, PED testing, purse split, different Promotional companies, the fight hit a brick wall.

Xylocaine

The Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones offered a big amount of money for both fighters before, so they could fight in the state of the art AT &T stadium but Floyd declined the offer. There were also rumors about a multi-million budget for the fighters to fight in Dubai. However, I am definitely sure that won’t happen. The fight will only be held in Las Vegas. Why? Because Floyd years ago had surgery with a broken right hand. So every fight he uses xylocaine, a drug designated to numb your hands (more like the plaster of Paris) and decrease discomfort or pain. The drug is illegal on all states except one…. You guess it right, Las Vegas.

PEDS Allegation

Manny Pacquiao on the other hand was accused of using PEDS. Floyd demanded Manny to do US Olympic style PED Testing, which means anytime someone will barged into your place or locker room and get a sample of your blood. Manny is a superstitious person, on the Eric Morales fight, an hour before the fight he was extracted blood which he said could have attributed to his loss on that night. Although, many experts had come up and given their opinions about the accuracy of Urine testing compared to blood testing in finding PEDS.

Talk about the irony of both fighters when Floyd accused Manny of taking Performance enhancing drugs which was never proven, while Floyd is taking Xylocaine.

On the recent ongoing negotiations all of those issues and demands have been ironed out. Manny agreed to the US drug testing and said he will give $5 million if they got something in his system. Pacquiao also agreed on the 60-40 purse split. When we think everything is going into plan and that this fight will eventually happen, Floyd followed a different script.

47-0

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not afraid of Pacquiao… I repeat “he is not afraid of Pacquiao”. Boxing is his profession, you are there to trade leathers, and so if you are afraid to fight, then you don’t belong on this sport. What he is afraid of is losing the “O” in his 47-0 record. His undefeated status consumed him. He has two fights left on his contract, so what he is doing now are all calculated risks. The Pacquiao fight is not to his liking. But if he doesn’t take up this fight, his legacy is in questioned. Ali-Frazier and Mike Tyson- Lennox Lewis, all of boxing’s great fought the best in their time. It has been five years plus now and the people are crying and shouting for a fight, Floyd can’t sit and do nothing. This is what we want… and boxing as a sport is put into a hi-jacked mode, No Manny and Floyd fight means dying to a painful and slow death.

Will we finally see a Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao fight? Everyone is excited, knowing any minute Floyd will announce the fight. I don’t buy it. Unless the contracts are all signed.

Garry Poole had said it… “Manny will be shadowboxing underneath a small photo of Floyd Mayweather Jr., imagining how he would vanquish his biggest rival.”

I guess that’s the closest it will be to a mega fight.
